Dear Constituent,

Thank you for contacting me regarding H.R. 1866, the Industrial Hemp Farming Act of 2009. I appreciate hearing from you and having the benefit of your views.

As you may be aware, H.R. 1866 was introduced by Rep. Ron Paul on April 4, 2009. This legislation proposes to exclude industrial hemp from the definition of "marijuana" and instead define "industrial hemp" to mean the plant Cannabis sativa L. and any part of such plant with a delta-nine tetrahydrocannabinol concentration that does not exceed .3 percent on a dry weight basis. This legislation has been referred to the House Committee on Energy and Commerce and the House Committee on Judiciary, where it awaits further action. Please rest assured that I will keep your thoughts in mind should this legislation be presented for a vote in the full House.

Thank you again for contacting me. If I can be of any further assistance on this or another federal matter, please do not hesitate to contact me. I also encourage you to visit my website to learn more about my views at www.house.gov/stearns. With kind regards, I am

Sincerely,

Cliff Stearns
United States Representative
