Dear Constituent,

Thank you for contacting me about industrial hemp, I appreciate hearing from you.

I agree that there are a wide variety of useful products that are produced from hemp. A robust hemp industry has existed for centuries, and there are many potential benefits to its use today. Therefore, I am not opposed to a federally regulated program to grow industrial hemp to use as a raw material for products like rope, textiles, paper and wood-composite materials. If such a program existed I would also favor a monitoring system that would ensure that hemp growing does not become an avenue of illegal cultivation of marijuana.

Thank you for your comments on this issue, and please stay in touch.

Sincerely,

Rep. Peter DeFazio
Fourth District, OREGON
